On the southern slopes of the south island of New Zealand giant tree ferns rise up to twenty feet in the air; the slopes face west and experience a high annual rainfall. This photograph was taken during a typically rainy afternoon. The soft light of overcast skies combines with dense, moist air to create a glowing landscape.
