The brown phase of the black bear is known as a cinnamon bear. Cinnamon bear coats are occasionally grizzled, leading the animals to be mistaken for grizzlies. Experts say you can always tell the difference by the bears' feet. Black bear claws are short, blunt and dark colored and grizzly claws are much longer and lighter in color.
