South Georgia Island, Bird Island region , albatross and icebergs
Explored the northern end of South Georgia around Bird Island as winds and sea swell began to highlight the remote and wild nature of South Georgia. Later we photographed beautiful icebergs carried north from currents from the Weddell Sea. These isolated icebergs provided dramatic backdrops to the Wandering & Light Mantled Sooty Albatross. Explored the northern end of South Georgia around Bird Island as winds and sea swell began to highlight the remote and wild nature of South Georgia. Later we photographed beautiful icebergs carried north from currents from the Weddell Sea. These isolated icebergs provided dramatic backdrops to the Wandering & Light Mantled Sooty Albatross. Late in the day, on the leeside of the island we took a zodiac tour where we photographed fur seals playing amongst the surf, as Gentoo penguins porpoised nearby, and Giant petrels took off from the water in front of us. The zodiac tour culminated with stunning views of this rugged coastline cloaked with kelp fields. « less
