Gentoo penguins (Pygoscelis papua), Antarctic Peninsula
Knowing that sooner or later
penguins would troop by, I sat and waited by a trail leading between a Gentoo colony and the ocean. My patience was soon rewarded and I remained absolutely still as the birds walked by—so close that a couple times their flipper-like wings brushed against my arm. A fast shutter speed with a deep depth of field ensured that every penguin would be in focus.
