This panoramic view was one of the visual highlights of my eight-day, 80-kilometer (50-mile) circuit of Mount Fitzroy and Cerro Torre. During this trek, we passed through southern beech forests, waded bitterly cold cascades, and snowshoed the vast Patagonian Ice Cap. Our second camp was situated adjacent to the Marconi Glacier. The view outside my tent to the south offered a spectacular panorama, which included Mount Fitzroy on the left and Gran Gendarme, Cerro Pollone, and Torre Pier Giorgio peeking out from behind the massive granite wall on the right.
