This is a wonderfully chaotic moment in a chaotic holiday. People were throwing colored paints and water at each other; women were whipping the men and pulling their shirts off. This seemed like atonement for all their bad behavior of the past year. By the end of the day Paint powder was embedded in my clothing, nostrils, hair and cameras. It was two days before I could get it all off.
