A sow polar bear with three new cubs explores the snow near their winter den. The family will remain close to the security of the den until the mother determines her cubs are strong enough to follow her through the deep snow. I calculated my exposures by setting my camera on manual exposure and taking a reading on the snow. I calculated my exposures by setting my camera on manual exposure and taking a reading on the snow. I then set my aperture to over-expose by two stops from what my camera indicated as the correct exposure. I have found this procedure to be the most accurate for white subjects in the snow.
