One of my most exhilarating photographic experiences occurred off Point Adolphus in Southeast Alaska. An adolescent humpback whale breached nine times in a row directly in front of my small fishing boat. When the whale breached, it stayed above the water's surface for only a few seconds, intensifying the drama of framing, focusing and triggering the shutter.<br />
