Ultima Thule Everest Expedition, Mount Everest, Tibet
Expedition members are silhouetted against Everest's North Face. In 1984 Ultima Thule was the first-ever Western climbing team allowed into Tibet through China since the Cultural Revolution. Even though we spent three months at 16,000 feet and higher, no one made the summit. This was not a problem for me as I had a grand experience that had tested my mettle.
